Charity

The Maharaja is recognised as the first to develop the element of social responsibility within Essex, involved in numerous community initiatives and charities. Started in 1991, the Maharaja’s Charity Nights have been a phenomenal success, raising close to £2 million pounds for hundreds of charitable causes. To add to this, the Maharaja was chosen by MPs to cater for the first nationwide Festival of Food and Culture at the House of Commons back in 1997, and more recently was chosen by MPs to represent the South East, Siraj’s restaurant also came second in the Tiffin Cup Parliamentary Restaurant Awards 2007 and was chosen as a finalist in the British Curry Awards 2008, beating over 11,000 other Indian restaurants to be one of the top 10 in the South East. In 2009, The Maharaja was chosen to be in the Top 100 in the UK at the British Curry Awards.

Mr Siraj Ali says “The Maharaja as well as my other businesses, continues to pursue and contribute significantly to charities including Little Haven Hospice, Motor Neuron Disease Association and St Luke’s Hospice amongst others.”
